Hi folks,

it must have been in 1974 or 1975 that I bought my first WS book in an English language bookshop. The title was "Eagle in the sky" and after the second page my eyes were glued to the book until I reached the last page.
Marvellous !! I went back to the bookshop and bought all other WS novels that were available there.
And I have been buying WS novels ever since. The novel I liked best (and still like best) is "The burning shore" with "River God" coming in a very, very close second. With "The Quest" Wilbur appearantly drifted off into the fantasy genre and although I was not really disappointed, I can't say I liked the book. The same applies to "Warlock". Somehow I got the feeling that Wilbur Smith lent his name to both these novels but did not write them himself. Also "Assegai" did not impress me much. With "Those in peril" my appreciation for Wilbur Smith moved up a few points again, but - how shall I say - the book simply was not the Wilbur Smith I knew and loved. I can only hope that he will write one more great book in his "old" style before he ascends to heaven.

Hi Rasfer, and welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the introduction. I am also hoping for one more epic Wilbur novel, involving the Courtney's!

Welcome rasfer. I, too began reading Wilbur in the early seventies. Got away from them for many years and when I returned I read many of them over again. A really good book can be read a number of times and be enjoyed
