Hi everyone, I'm a retiree in Winnipeg who winters in Texas. I read my first WS novel back in the 70's and all of his publications since then, even the less-impressive last two books. For me it's his imperfect characters that create such interesting plot lines (no ultimate heroes in any of his stories). I give The Courtney's only a slight edge over The Ballantyne series but perhaps only because of the number of volumes. At the same time, I found the Egyptian series to be also enjoyable, even if The Quest was a bit mystical (I was waiting for Harry Potter to appear). Stand-alone favorites? Definitely, The Sunbird, with Eagle In The Sky a close second. Please see my separate thread on the mini-series, The Burning Shore.
