How about some meetup?

Postby WSI » Fri May 26, 2006 1:15 pm

Yes, I know, we are scattered all, over this planet, some in Europe, some in Africa and some in America.
But I would like to suggest a meetup at a 'central' place (whereever this might be). Not tomorrow, not next month, probably next year or so.

What do you think? I could imagine a 2 or 3 day meetup with some escorting events. For my part I could affort a flight (although I dislike planes) and 2 or 3 nights in a hotel - I can save a bit until the day.
Is there even any interest?
An if there is: wheere & when?

It is a very good idea WSI, which might come off one day but i think will be resticted to regionally.

Yeah very good idea. With Wilbur Smith doing a publicity tour next year (book signings etc...) it would make sense to do it then. Only prob being that our most active members (the ones that would come) are spread completely accross the globe!

Maybe when we have a few more members it would be easier.

yeah, probably your're right. Let's say Australia is a bit too far for a short trip. The USA too. Hm. Difficult.
How about Europe? I think the most of us come from the UK?

Well, Mat, then make this happen  :D Do you think if we had about 10 countries more spread around the globe it would be easier? :)

The 'heartland' of WS himself is South Africa - and he sometimes lives in London ... However I know it won't be Germany

it is a sad world where the dangers of the internet are such that human interaction is prohibited.

I would imagine that a lot of the younger people on the board would be hesistant to meetup face-to-face, too. Parents have heard way too many stories about their daughters meeting people on the web... right before they dissappear into nothingness.

It's always been a dangerous world for those who don't take precautions.

younger people ... ah 8)

ok, I confess: I don't have a webcam and I don't see any reason for me to have one. If I want to see faces then in reality.

Are there really secret stories of webcams and fear of whatever? That's funny in my eyes
