What Are You Reading - Please Update Your Your Profile

Postby johnrogers » Fri May 20, 2011 1:41 pm

I get a lot of good information when I read a post and then check to see what the forum member is reading.I notice a lot of members have posted books they have read months ago and not updated the information - under User Control Panel - and then under Profile at the bottom of the screen is an area to input your present book that you are reading - I ask you all of this as a favour - I get a lot of my reading ideas from this information

member looking for a good book to read

John,

Have you read any books by James Clavell?

I have Clavell on my shelves as well, though I haven't had the time to read them yet. No wait, that's not true; I had other things to read . But I hear they are quite good.

Hi E-Hoog or Matbow

Regarding James Clavell - should his books be read in a particular order - if it is a series I want to be in proper sequence

I don't think the books need to be read in order - but it helps understand some background information which is thrown into the story. I read them in the following sequence:

Shogun (1600)
Tai-pan (1841)
Gai-jin (1862)
Noble House (1963)

King Rat (1945)

Whirlwind (1979) [and if you can find it, Escape which is the romantic spin-off of Whirlwind].

I'd rank Clavell with WS as a historical fiction writer.
"If I ever ask anything of you it would be to please consider life with an open mind and respect the opinions and wishes of others as long as they bring no harm to you and as long as you bring no harm or corruption to others."

Hi everyone,

Reading Sound of Thunder for the third time - not everyone's favourite, but in my opinion, for dialogue and characterisation, one of his best - an enthralling book.
