Profanity - dont read if easily offended!

I was going to write a blog on this topic on my website, but my parents might read it and they've never heard me swear!

Anyhow, what are peoples views on swearing? I have a bit of a "potty mouth" in certain circumstances but I tend to not go any further than the F, S and B words. So...all this got my thinking and I decided to do a bit of research. I won't go into my findings as this isnt the place but I did come accross some amusing bits:

"Shakespeare hinted at the word [cunt] in Hamlet, Twelfth Night and Henry V: Hamlet quips about "country matters" when he tries to lay his head in Ophelia's lap; Malvolio has the deliciously salacious line "These be her very c's, her u's, and her t's, and thus she makes her great p's"

"In Finnish, katso merta means look at the sea, but to Italophones it sounds very similar to cazzo merda; cazzo is the English equivalent of cock or dick, and merda means shit. While cazzo merda does not make much sense grammatically (they are just two substantives put one after the other), hearing such a thing would be funny for Italians, to say the least."

And whilst I'm on this subject I remembered seeing an advert on C4 of lots of celebs saying what their favourite swear word is. Rachel Bilsons "shit face" is my personal favourite:

or (if the above doesnt work):

Hope I haven't offended anyone!

Jeez Like Matt!

Swearing in the right place at the right time is fine. Screaming at the computer screen while working in the office is perhaps not one of those times. [Who would do a thing like that?!? - Ed]

When beaten by four of a kind with a Full house in your hand then swearing is ok.

Swearing on the field of play is a no no.

My view. It's a free cuntry and if you want to do it Just do it. People who take offence shouldn't be listening in the first place.

PS If you think Mom and Dad don't know you swear you are sadly mistaken and downright dumb.

Yeah, it has it's place and time. Good example would be to let off stress during exams. Bad place would be fvck in between ever word in your sentence.

Yeah, my 'rents know I swear, they've heard me occasionally drop the f-bomb... Of course, then I get lectured on how I'm no lady...  :P

@Yakumo

"My parents have never heard me swear"

Vs

"my parents don't know I swear"

Which one appeared in my post?

Who looks dumb now?!
 :D

See and I usually never ever swear and when I do people usually have mini heart attacks and are in shock when I do.

But yeah, I'm just under the opinion that you shouldn't swear because you might offend someone else if you do. I sure don't enjoy it if someone is using the f word for every second word in a sentence.

They don't need to hear you swear to know you swear!

Even ladies swear. I am sure the queen has been caught with the odd expletive on her delicate tongue, specially when the horses lose.

I am an army brat and I married into the forces so there isn't much swearing that I haven't heard. I only seldom swear myself and I don't like to hear it. My children know better than to use bad language in my hearing.
I was walking behind some school children the other day and every other word was the 'f' word, how anyone could understand the context of the conversation, I don't know.

I know exactly what you mean. The younger generation just seems to sware as if its normal. Fcuk after every word is ok to them. It wouldn't surprise me if some dumb kid puts it in an english exam without realising that its wrong!

I only usually sware when things don't go right for me, but even then its quietly.

I dont mind dropping the magic word when appropriate, and that means when I feel like. I spent about 30 years playing Rugby and I found it a perfect place for swearing and being totally Politically incorrect.
