W.E.B. Griffin has been called "The Poet Laureate Of The U.S. Military" he writes historic fiction following the careers of memorable characters (a group of U.S. Army officers from WWII to the early 1970's is The Brotherhood Of War.) "The Corps" is U.S. Marine Corps historic fiction. Secret Agents is about the O.S.S., Badge of Honor is Philadelphia Police etc.
His characters are really good and the pace of his writing is very fast. I am now on the third of his Presidential Agent Series which takes place in current time.
