Well not at the same time, but having two books on the go!

I've just bought Sunbird and Valley of Horses (Jean Auel) and am thinking of reading them both. Do you think it will degrade my experience of either novel by doing this?

Well, I did that once, but it didn't work out for me.

I read Tai-pan by James Clavell and something else by WS.

You might have guessed that WS didn't live up to Tai-pan, lol.

So, DON'T DO IT!!!

Leave a week, max, between each book. I found Sunbird to be a quick read, so you might want to read that 1st.

I've read two books at once. It's fine, no worries at least for me. It all depends on what mood you're in when you're reading and besides if one is getting a bit slow you can take up the other one.

But it's all up to you and how good you are at multi-reading

I often read two books at the same time or parallel. Normally something smooth and something severe, e. g. a specialised book and a novel or a classic and a modern.
That works rather good: the severe things only some chapters and for relaxation the smooth
But I never would read two novels with alike contents at the same time, that only leads to confusion

I've tried it and couldn't do it. Found that it took part of the fun away from both books. I personally need to give my full attention to a book in order to get the most out of it. Although what WSI said makes sense. Perhaps i might try that sometime.

Somebody gave me an audio book for christmas so i am going to give that a go while i read a book(not at the same time of course) and i think there will be enough of a differential for it to be ok, after all we watch films amongst our reading don't we.

Despite what i've said previously, I have actually just started reading 2 books at the same time. I'm reading one at work, and one in the house. So far it seems ok.

Well, sometimes I have three or four books going. That's why I can read one in two days and another one of the same lenght may take three months

It works, like what John was saying, having one to read at work and at home (2 locations, perhaps 2 different mind sets, and so forth)...

Yes, in ma case I pick up one or another depending on my state of mind or how tired I am.

Sure I've read 2 books at once. one for fun and one for work/school or one gets you bogged down so you switch to another until you can get back into the first. I don't think I could have gotten through some of the magnum opus I've read without an "intermission" .

I've put down books before... for example I started WS "Eye of the Tiger" and a few pages in, got bored, and started another one. Haven't picked it up since the summer.

Anyone else have books waiting to be read that you started and then put down?

"The Winter King" by bernard Cornwell. The first of his Arturian Trilogy. Pretty good stuff. But I put it down every 100 pages. Finally finished it this week. Another one was "Shogun" by James Clavell, I just needed a break after 300 pages; then the rest flew by...

I quite often have as many as five on the go at once,
i am just greedy i guess but when I go to the bootie I get lots and can never decide which to read first.my boyfriend says I cant possibly follow all the plots but i do .

I usually have three books going.
One upstairs.
One downstairs.
And one in the garage.
