Can anyone give me some advice on him? I've never read any of his stuff but have been thinking about it. If anyone is a fan, which book do you recommend as his best? Thanks for any help.

Like the Bird Flu? LoL

Well, I do happen to enjoy his works. :)

I have in my library Kane and Abel, The Progidal Daughter (these two follow are kinda like a mini-series, read K&A first), As the Crow Flies (my fav. I think) & Honour Among Thieves.

His books are different than what I usually enjoy, but Iunno. Something in them makes me wanna always go back & read again! I read them when in high-school first, so some of the detail he put in annoyed me, but I'm cool with it now.

Yakumo, which book(s) have you read that you didn't enjoy? & Why?

PS John I like your new avatar... wish I could read what it says though!

Thanks for posting your opinion neferk. I'm now stuck between 2 different views! One says quite strongly, No and the other says yes. I'm gonna have a look on the net at some reviews on his work. What I think i'll do is just get one of his books from the library so even if i think it's crap, no money wasted!

As for my avator I tried to decrease the blue horizon cover to 160 pixels so that it fits on this site but then everything got distorted. Have a look in the thread i posted about favourite W.S book covers you'll see the large version there and will be able to read what it says...

Yeah, good idea to check out the library before you spend your money, that's what I always do :)

I rely on an opinion formed by she who must be obeyed.

I think an Archer book found its way into the house and was never read to the end by the oracle. A damning review came back and that scared me off ever since.

I know, this is perhaps not the way I should judge books, but SWMBO has proved correct in her assumptions that I would dislike reading books when I have taken the unnerving step to go against SWMBO.

Perhaps I should re consider given the good write up you have given him Neferk, although I am never a person who can read a book that has huge amounts of detail as I get easily bored. Call me a high-school kid in his late 30's bores easily

Haha, no, that's not what I meant by the detail part!

Without giving away too much story-line, The Progidal Daughter has lots of politics in it, about how the political machine in the States works. There's also something similar in As the Crow Flies in terms of how businesses work.

He doesn't do as good a job as Jilly Cooper or Jean Auel when it comes to working in the text-book parts of the story in, but it's not completely unreadable :)

He doesn't have the pace of WS, but then I don't know anyone who does compare!

I've decided to give him a go. I have picked up a copy of 'As The Crow Flies' since I remember that title. I stuck in my head that it was your favourite, so once I'm done with Blue Horizon, i'll be reading that. Thanks.

I for one will not be betting against you!

Yeah, I remember something about that a while back, but I never bothered to read the news items further.

And having searched the BBC website, I don't think I want to know!

Here the link if you're interested!

Am actually on chapter 8 now

Seems ok so far, nothing special (i.e Not in the same class as W.S) better than Dan Brown...I'm not yet sure....similar to Tom Clancy....maybe. We will see. :?

Hmm... maybe no...

I've read Tom Clancy, and while I agree they're somewhat similar, wait to finish the book before you pull in that comparison!

Fair enough, at this moment in time, i've yet to finish either writers book. The Bear and The Dragon started of ok, but i got bored. Perhaps the same will happen with 'Honour Amoung Thieves'
