From time to time we run into a movie or book that strike us as different, difficult to place on style or genre. "The Eight" is one example, it attracts thousands of fans because is so different and unpredictable. In essence, it is about a chess game played by real people over centuries. It is not an easy read, it requires a lot of attention to follow the plot and understand how all characters and events are somehow related to each other despite how different or unrelated they look like.
This was probably `The Da Vinci Code" of the eighties, and might have been one of Dan Brown's inspirations for his blockbuster.
This is a Love or Hate book, no in betweens. My take, give it a chance, you may love it, as I did!
