One of my favorites when I was a kid; my dad had lots of his novels. He was one of the authors that introduced me to the thriller action/adventure genre. His great knowledge of warfare and seafare gave us classics like “The Guns of Navarone” and “Where Eagles Dare” Unfortunately most of his works are out of print in the US, but still readily available in the UK.

Wow...someone else who read Alistair MacLean. That's how I got started too. About forty years ago!!!! MacLean's best book was HMS Ullysses - about the Murmansk convoys of World War II.

His early books were great - his later ones, not so good. Like a lot of writers they earn a name and then think they can just write anything and it will get on the best seller list.
