Author of more than 40 books. Many of them are sagas covering many generations of families in a geographic locale. Many of the books are named after countries of depict the history of one. For example The Covenant is the story of South Africa.
Heavy on detail some of the books require patience, but I find them rewarding in the long run.

2007 celebrates the centennial of the remarkable individual. Below is a link to the James Michener Society if you are interested in learning more.

I already mentioned Michener in a previous post because he is like a Major League Baseball player in that if he bats .300 he thinks he is a God.
I liked The Covenant. Hawaii was good. Centenial was also good. Mexico, Chesapeake, Space, The Source and others all sucked.

I guess what I really don't like is his formula.
1. How the land was formed (I had my fill of plate tectonics in college).
2. What animals are there and how did they get there.
3. Where did the 1st human occupants come from?
4. What was there story?
5. How did they worship?
6. What did they eat?
7. Where did it come from?
8. How did they react when The White Man show up?
9. How did they suffer because of the ignorance of the White Man?
(Fill all of the above with as much blah blah blah as possible until you reach a minimum of 500 pages.)
10. Conclude in weak manner.

Interesting summary.
I guess what I appreciate most is all the research that takes to go thru the 10 points of your list.

I thought "Hawaii" (my favorite character was Wu Chow's Auntie) and "Centennial" were very good. The books started going downhill after that.

I liked the "Source" as each chapter was like a stand alone story.
