The Quest - inside back cover

Postby garwil » Thu May 15, 2014 5:53 am

Hi all,
I have had the Quest since it was released and have been meaning to post this since then. Having just read it again i have just remembered...
On the inside back cover there is a piece of what is best described as " a piece of wire" . Is about 2cm in length and is scotch taped to the top right hand corner. It appears to be silver. I see it every time i read the book and never remember to post and ask if anyone else has this and what it is there for? Any ideas anyone??

Sounds so very weird not a clue what it might be but curious as hell to find out what it is.I will follow the post until the "Sherlock Holmes" mystery is solved.

Now here's a topic for a new mystery book - I'm sure somebody could make a name for themselves as an up and coming author by using this in the opening para. Good luck Garwil - give it a go!!

Could it be another version of those stick on security tags, like these?

Where did you buy the book from, was it in the spy section by any chance?

There's sure to be a simple explanation - it looks like a gift card tie string - probably somebody bought the book and stuck in a presentation card but he or the recipient decided to return the book for a refund and just cut of the gift card

I think am going to try and get hold of the publishers and see if they know what it is for. It could well be a gift card tie but is inside the back cover under the sleeve which is a strange place to put it and the "wire" fits snugly under the tape on both ends and is a clean fit.. Will keep you posted

I think I've seen this before on books. Might very well be a very rudimentary anti-theft device. If it is a metal wire it can be easily detected by a very simple system that measures disturbances in a magnetic field.

Or aliens

It could be what Ehoog and Soeley have mentioned - what about something to do with the binding process when the book is manufactured meaning a printing or binding process malfunction where the material ended up on the inside cover rather than the spine and corners
