Discussion about Wilbur Smith's Egyptian series.

Papyrus of Ani; Egyptian Book of the Dead

Postby Nefer » Mon Oct 10, 2005 9:01 pm

So since I'm the mod here, thought I'd take charge & post this up. If you've read ANY of the Egyptian WS books (and shame on you if you haven't!!) you'll know Taita makes constant references to the Book of the Dead. Well, on my endless meanderings on the interweb, I found this site, which has the WHOLE Book of the Dead in translation!

So here's the link, the BotD has been translated by E. A. Wallis Budge, and is hosted on the U. of Penn. African Studies Center website http://www.africa.upenn.edu/

I don't think Mat will be too impressed if I cut & paste the whole blooming thing onto his website, so for all interested in reading & or discussing the BotD, here it is: http://www.africa.upenn.edu/Books/Papyrus_Ani.html

Let the debates begin!

thats a mouthful no wonder it took them weeks of burial rituals to finaly have it done. it is strange to see the words and to hear it. ive seen the book of the dead on display and smelt it, it really is amazing to see, to look upon all the symbols is overwhelming, thanks for the link. its great

That was very cool of you to post that. I am going to read those for sure. I was blessed to have visited Egypt last year and was just blown away. Soon after we returned someone turned me on to "River God" and I was transported back to the days when all that I saw was being created and to feel like you really witnessed the culture thru Taita's eyes was fantastic. I just finished The 7th Scroll and now will begin Warlock. I need to go back in time again.....

Very cool! I actually own a translation that I picked up years ago at an estate sale. It will be interesting to see how these passages compare. Thank you very much!
