Is Shu from china?

Postby Steven » Wed Jul 05, 2006 7:57 pm

In River God that guy Shu says he was from a land a "year from the Euphrates" and since his name sounds Asian-ish, do you think hes from China? And were there Chinese people in Egypt back then?

EDIT: Sorry, I just realised I accidentally put this in the wrong forum.

I'm totally ashamed to say I don't remember a Shu!

Do recall a Huw, and I always figured 'year from the Euphrates' to be India.

And unless I'm very mistaken, this is the right forum :)

Well I found a map to help illuminate :)

Euphrates is in the Iraq-Iran area, and a year from the river back in the day, travelling by horse would end you up in India as per this map.

I dont know about Shu, but in the quest there were 2 women mentioned who seemed to be from China - Dr. Rei and one of the girls at the temple of saraswati at the beginning of the book (forget her name). Interesting how WS incorporates other cultures into his books.
