Discussion about Wilbur Smith's Egyptian series.

Bao

Postby Rivaan » Fri Apr 14, 2006 10:12 pm

I was always interested when reading about this board game in RG and Warlock. I found out that Bao means "board" in Swahili.

Here are the rules to it.

Has anyone else been interested in this game? It would be so cool if WS actually commissioned the production of Bao board games based off the Egyptian books, for purchase in stores. It could be popular ^_^ I know I'd buy one, being the RG/Warlock fanatic I am =P

Yeah when you read about ancient egyptian games they always mention Senet and not bao - so i wondered if it was real!

Bao

Postby tadh23 » Tue Jan 02, 2007 6:30 pm

The game is a version of the game mancala. (the basic mancala can be purchased at target or any game store) Bao is a bit more complicated and has several variants (as does mancala) Its a game where there are troughs and stones or seeds (usualy glass beads on a modern board) and a player takes turns piking up stones and redistributing them based on strategy. The object is to obtain the stones from your opponent.

i know not very informative but here is a link to an online Bao game that has better instructions (play basic bao, as bao zanzibar is much more difficult to master)
http://www.baogame.com

mancala is more fun for a beginner because its a bit more simple. Play it online at the following site.

have fun!

Cool!!

I think this can go under the title of "actual historical events!"
