If you won the lottery...

Postby Matbow » Sun Apr 02, 2006 11:48 am

Ok, so this is a slightly superficial and materialistic thing to do...but hey, we all like to dream!

1) What would your first purchase?
2) Would you give any to friends/family? If so how much?
3) Would you give any to charity? If so which one(s)?
4) What car would you buy?
5) Where would you go on holiday?
6) Would you quit work?
7) Would you be happier?

My answers

1) A new car. See 4)
2) I'de give a million to my parents, and I'de take my friends on holiday
3) Yeah - a few hundred thousand, but I'de do a lot of research to find a really good one.
4)I'de start a collection! Porche 911 turbo, Ferrari F430 Spider, Aston Martin...
5) I'de go on a massive round the world trip.
6) Yep...and I'de start up my own business
7) Who knows?!

3. yep, to the society that cares for homeless persons
4. none, I would keep on with my car
5. South Africa :D
6. nope, but I would take a long holiday
7. don't think so, just more assured
8)

I was thinking at least £5 million = $8 mill.

Being that the odds of winning the lottery is the same as finding the winning ticket on the ground somewhere so here's to me finding the winning ticket on the ground:

1) A car... my silver Miata
2) Yes I would give some to family, but not friends because where do you stop?
3) I would donate to MCC
4) Stated above... my Miata and perhaps a Porsche
5) Hawaii
6) Nope, because I (assuming I've finished my schooling) found something that I like to do.
7) No. I wouldn't be happier. Money makes things way more difficult.

1) What would be your first purchase?

A House with 4 bedrooms all ensuite and an indoor swimming pool with a sliding roof for UK summers

2) Would you give any to friends/family? If so how much?

£5m. Daughters £500k Son £500k, Mum enough to retire, Dad what I owe him £10k, Brother nothing.

3) Would you give any to charity? If so which one(s)?

Charity begins at home

4) What car would you buy?

BMW X5

5) Where would you go on holiday?

A place in each continent, each year, for the rest of my life.

6) Would you quit work?

I would quit my current job lightning quick. I think I would need to work though but probably at my own business.

7) Would you be happier?

A debate runs whether money would make you happier. For me the answer has to be yes as having had it and lost it I can say for certain that it is a naïve person who lives in the belief that money is trouble. Or is the trouble the having then not having? Seems like a circular argument so I will stick with yes on the following basis.

I wouldn't be able to do any of the things 1 through 6 without the money!

Perfect timing what with me questioning the point of uni right now...

1) What would your first purchase?
condo downtown with a view of the ocean

2) Would you give any to friends/family? If so how much?
I'd give my parents whatever they wanted, but being my parents they would never take money from their kids  I'd give my little sis & bro enough money to cover however much school they want/need ie Bachelor's, Grad school... and maybe living expenses!

3) Would you give any to charity? If so which one(s)?
Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust - prolly a million...? They deserve it, they're much better than bloody PETA or Greenpeace... Durrell actually made an effort to try and save endangered speices.

4) What car would you buy?
Oh I dunno... Mini?

5) Where would you go on holiday?
Bank's considerably emptier now... so it would have to be a short one to Egypt :)

6) Would you quit work?
seeing as how the only work I do right now is school... Hell Yeah! With no money problems, I'd set about writing asap!

7) Would you be happier?
Hell yeah! Shallow, I know, but to quote Hard-Fi, "we're all working for the cash machine". If I didn't have to worry about where my next meal was coming from, sure I'd be happy!

1) First purchase:
That would have to be the palace I would build on a remote desert island to house my newly recruited harem!
2) For family/ friends:
Most of the rest would go to my family. Selected friends could come and stay.
3) Charity:
I would set up a home for stray dogs (much needed in this part of the world)
4) Car:
I think a helicopter would be more appropriate, but I'd settle for a Sky Car
5) Holiday:
The solitude of a tibetan monastery on a snow-capped himalayan peak, to recover from the exertions of 1) above
6) Work:
Satisfying the harem would be more than enough
7) Happier:
Are you kidding?
Regrets: that I have read all of Wilbur Smith's novels (some several times) and have to wait far too long for the adventure to continue.....

1) What would your first purchase?
2 or 3 holiday homes around the world.

2) Would you give any to friends/family? If so how much?
I would give them gifts as and when i thought they needed them.

3) Would you give any to charity? If so which one(s)?
No. Like Yakumo says, 'Charity begins at home'. Although i would probably set up a home for animals of some kind.

4) What car would you buy?
A sports car, probably one of the Toyota family.

5) Where would you go on holiday?
Been everywhere i have wanted to go, but Antarctica maybe?

6) Would you quit work?
No! For reasons given in the next question.

7) Would you be happier?
Only in the short term. Like everything in life you have to have the rough to appreciate the smooth or else things become very mundane. For instance the longer you go without food the nicer it will taste when you do eat. You have to keep your feet firmly on the ground and still have dreams because without them you have nothing!
While a tiger eyed its prey and an eagle raged in a thunderous sky a river of darkness fell upon a burning sun and the wolf cried tis a time to die, thus did the angels weep as power and triumph in those golden eyes did creep.
