The Quest - To be released April 6th 2007

Discussion about Wilbur Smith's Egyptian series.

Postby wingwriter2000 » Thu Nov 23, 2006 10:37 am

The only thing bad about River God is.....uh....hmmm.....well....okay..it wasn't 1,500 pages long. I agree with the poster that said Warlock paled in comparison to River God...but truthfully, how many works don't? If you are trying to lure someone new to Smith, then River God or Bird's of Prey would be the works to recommend.

I can only hope the 'The Quest' recaptures some of the magic of RG. But, as someone said, we need to read the new work for it's own merit. If we are wanting a RG clone, I think we will all be sorely disappointed. I also hope Smith (just me I'm sure) strays a bit away form the sorcery and has Taita relying more on his ingenuity as he did in RG. That was so much more appealing to me. Alan.

Yep, you nailed it, Alan.

I loved RG because of Taita, not his talents. Well, okay, that too...

I'm willing to tackle Quest on it's own. :)

The Quest

Postby Ada » Fri Feb 02, 2007 8:57 am

I won't be saying anything on The Quest for a long time unless I borrow it from the library (or buy the Audio/CD), as I only collect/buy WS paperbacks. (Our publisher's release date is 1st April for the book & 1st May for the CD.) Like many of you, I will also have to be careful & watch out for spoilers re the newy.
Is there going to be a race/competition to see who finishes it first? The above dates are from the publisher's site - I can't confirm the actual date the books will be in the stores - maybe they are going to be in sync.?
I know J.K. Rowling's are simultaneously released around the world but I don't think WS's are - does anyone know?

The Quest - released in Australia

Postby Ada » Thu Mar 08, 2007 9:30 pm

Above information is INCORRECT.

Australia IS getting THE QUEST in APRIL.

I've just (today) put myself of our local library's waiting list & am 6th on the list so will get it in the first group as they are getting in 10 copies!

Go to WS's site & check with the Aussie publishers - the dates are there!

I have mixed feelings about this series. In my opinion “River God” was close to WS finest hour and “Warlock” was one of his weakest efforts. I will definitely end up reading “The Quest” but not right away.
I will wait for your opinions too…

I agree with you Penitent. But I am anxious to read it, despite the fact that Warlock wasn't up to par.

Hope you stick around longer Kate:)

Check out Wilbur's website. They have added the cover art for some of the international editions. Looks like in Spanish the title is going to be something like "The source of the Nile"
